Project Scope:  
Great Northern Engineering provided the design for the secondary containment, API 650 fuel storage tanks, system piping and structural walkways, tank foundations, as well as, the other infrastructure necessary to allow for facility operations. GNE also provided technical support to the contractor, and reviewed all submittals, RFI’s, and DCVR’s.

Project Details:


  • Provided preliminary process flow diagram, site plan, and construction cost estimate.
  • Provided a design development site plan for the entire project site that includes locations of tanks and other structures required. Site plan to consider alternatives for future truck loading rack and truck access.
  • Structural design for the concrete tank ring wall foundations that incorporates the Cathodic Protection and Leak Detection systems.
  • Secondary Containment system that includes the liner installation, dike walls, and basic storm drainage system.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and analysis required to determine feasibility of using existing pumps to transfer fuel from new tanks.
  • Overall tank design to include all necessary appurtenances such as venting, access man-ways, fill diffusers, level gauging, water draw-off, tank drain, stairs and access walkways.

  • Design of Secondary Containment Membrane and Leak Detection system in accordance with API 650
  • Coordination with local Planning and Zoning Commission for land use permitting
