Project Scope:  
Great Northern Engineering was contracted by RohlederBorges Architecture to develop a design for a new aviation fueling system at the King County Airport. The project included all design specifications and an IFC package for the fueling system and underground storage tanks.

Image All engineering work was provided in accordance with the requirements of the latest applicable local, State of Alaska, and National regulations and codes.

Project Details:


  • The project was carried out in a 35%, 65%, and 100% design package development process. Each milestone included a design review with the client;
  • Fueling design included the new Jet-A fueling & metering system, (2) 20,000 gallon below grade storage tanks, submersible pumps, and a truck offloading cabinet with a filtration system;
  • The design incorporated a pipeline distribution system using a pair of underground hydrant fuel pits for service with a hydrant mobile cart for under-wing fueling in accordance with industry standards;
  • The new fueling system included a means for de-fueling aircraft on the ramp and returning the excess fuel to storage;
  • The completed IFC package was submitted for permitting, followed by Contractor Invitation to Bid;
  • GNE provided technical bid evaluation and Install Contractor recommendations;
  • During construction, GNE provided engineering support and responded to contractor RFI’s, Submittals, & Design Variance Requests;
