United Postal Services

Location:
Anchorage, Alaska

Project Scope:
Constructed the hardstand refueling apron in support of United Parcel Service’s aircraft cargo operations. The design aircraft for the UPS Apron includes the A380, MD-11, B747 as well as several other configurations of aircraft.

Ramp-Expansion-Jet-Hydrant-Refueling-System-2.jpg The ramp apron consists of a total of five concrete aircraft parking hardstands with an option for a future sixth position. A pair of hydrant fueling pits is located on each hardstand for under wing refueling of the design

Project Details:

  • Provide design and construction services for the approximately $1 million dollar jet fuel distribution and delivery system
  • Provided design parameters to ensure the design complied with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry performance standards
  • Provided the design for the hydrant systems, the passive anode cathodic protection system to protect the below grade piping, and the Emergency Fuel Shut-Off System
  • Designed and constructed the fuel system to operate at a mean allowable working pressure of 285 psig for refueling delivery rates of up to 700 gpm per hydrant
  • Designed the extension of the new 16″ diameter distribution pipeline from existing fuel utility vault near Taxiway “R”
  • Constructed hydrant refueling system in a loop configuration to provide superior flow characteristics and allow for isolation of each side of the ramp for maintenance or repairs
  • Ensured that the project was completed on time, within the construction budget, and in conformance with the design specifications
