Project Scope:  
Great Northern Engineering was contracted by Kodiak Microwave System to write and submit a Dismantlement, Removal, & Remediation (DR&R) Report for (2) Microwave Cell Tower Projects recently completed on Kodiak Island. The (2) towers are located on the north and south shores, respectively, of the Kodiak Island north peninsula between Uganik and Uyak Bays. The Spiridon and Uganik Towers are at elevations of 2770-ft and 1970-ft, respectively

image All engineering work was provided in accordance with the requirements of the latest applicable local, State, and National regulations and codes.

Project Details:


  • GNE engineers completed
            the DR&R Report and submitted for review and acceptance.
  • Considerations included the removal of all site equipment including:
    • (6) 500 gallon propane tanks;
    • (2) Polar power 10kW generators;
    • (1) Aluminum 8’ x 10’ shelter;
    • (24) 2-volt Rolls batteries;
    • (2) tower-mounted dish antennas;
    • Misc. radio and electrical equipment.
  • GNE determined the safest, most practical, and most cost effective solution was to
            use a combination of barges and Huey Bell 204 helicopters.
  • Final DR&R estimates resulted in a $1.5 million savingsv to the Client.
